SC Seal of Biliteracy

All South Carolina students are eligible to attain the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy based on two qualifications submitted during their junior or senior year, regardless of the student's first language.

Students may apply for this seal if they have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all of their English classes and have taken or plan to take three years of a world language. Students who are served in an ESOL program must have a minimum overall composite score of 4.0 on the ACCESS 2.0 English Proficiency Test.

In addition to this requirement, students will have to demonstrate proficiency in a world language on the AAPPL online assessment. The cost for this assessment is $20.

This seal encourages students to take ownership of their language proficiency growth, to better prepare themselves for today’s workforce, and to give them an edge in a competitive job market.

If interested, students must contact Mrs. Delesandro (sdelesandro@newberry.k12.sc.us) in the MCHS main office by December 7th.
